Apartment Therapy has published a tour of artist Trevor Ball’s roughly 1,200-square-foot, one-bedroom rental, where his own typography and art cover the walls and the home includes a giant lips sofa. Ball has rented the apartment for 8½ years and says his landlord knows about the writing on the walls and likes it.

The apartment is in a building dating from between 1908 and 1911, according to Apartment Therapy’s tour. Ball describes the space as having had a more businesslike appearance, with what he called brown, white and black features, before he began adding his work and personal touches.
Over time, he has brought in typographic, tongue-in-cheek artwork, vintage-style street signs, mirrors, a projector, toys and unusual accessories. The lips sofa is among the furnishings in a room that also combines colorful details with white walls and clean furniture shapes, according to the report.
Ball told Apartment Therapy that his aim was to create a home with an 1980s graphic-design feel while retaining a contemporary look. He has rented the apartment for 8½ years, and the article says some other residents in the building have lived there for more than 30 years. Ball joked that he was not planning to leave.
